A.I.R. AQUASCAPING
GARDENING UNDER WATER
Designing and arranging underwater landscapes that utilize aquatic fishes, plants, rocks, stones,
driftwood, and other materials that create, maintain , or restore the natural
eco-system that is above, surrounding, and under the water.
So What Makes Us Different?
Designs
We offer a variety of design styles that include the Dutch style, the Japanese style, the jungle style, the nature style, and the saltwater reefs.
Purpose
While most aquascaping focuses on designing underwater gardens for aquariums, we utilize aquascaping to help restore natural freshwater and saltwater habitats in the outside world.
Techniques
In addition to design, aquascaping requires specific methods to maintain fishes, organisms, and plants.
Designs
We offer a variety of design styles that include the Dutch style, the Japanese style, the jungle style, the nature style, and the saltwater reefs.
Dutch Style
This type of aquascaping is perfect for areas that have plants of different heights on different levels. There is typically no rocks or driftwood incorporated into this design style.
Jungle Style
This type of aquascaping incorporates a combination of the dutch and nature styles that have little to no hardscape material, as well as a small amount of open space.
Saltwater reefs
Saltwater reefs have live rock, and are populated by corals, marine invertebrates, and coralline algae.
Purpose
While most aquascaping focuses on designing underwater gardens for aquariums, we utilize aquascaping to help restore natural freshwater and saltwater habitats in the outside world.
Freshwater Areas
According to the EPA, 64% of assessed lake acres and 44% of assessed stream miles are not clean enough to support uses such as fishing and swimming. By fixing the habitats under the surface we make a difference.
Saltwater Reefs
According to the World Wildlife Foundation, roughly one-quarter of coral reefs worldwide are already considered damaged beyond repair, with another two-thirds under serious threat. It's time to fix this.
Ocean Effects
Oceans are the lifeblood of planet Earth and humankind. They flow over nearly three-quarters of our planet, and hold 97% of the planet's water. By restoring the habitats in the small local water ways, fresh or salty, we can help protect the Earth's largest resource.
Techniques
In addition to design, aquascaping requires specific methods to maintain fishes, organisms, and plants.
Fishes
Certain fishes such as shrimp or oysters are perfect at removing algae blooms that result from fertilizer runoff.
Organisms
By reintroducing beneficial organisms into the aquatic landscapes we can improve the overall habitat.
Plants
Removing invasive plant species helps the natural plants perform the water-cleansing they naturally do.
